FuelCell South Fifth Annual Conference

FuelCellSouth 2008

 

The Fifth Annual FuelCellSouth Conference was held in Greenville, South Carolina on April 28-30, 2008.  Representatives from more than eleven states attended the conference to hear presentations on the latest fuel cell technology, to see exhibits, and to network with some of the bet fuel cell experts in the country.  The Crystal Flame Innovation Awards, sponsored by the South Carolina Technology Alliance, were presented in three categories. 

 

The award for Entrepreneurs was presented to Microbial Fuel Cell Technologies, LLC from Charleston, South Carolina for MFC Engineered Systems which are harnessing bacteria to produce electricity.

 

The Crystal Flame Award for Researchers was presented to the Virginia Tech Macromolecular Science & Engineering Program in Blacksburg, Virginia for their work in the area of polymer science and ionomer membrane materials for fuel cell applications.

 

The Crystal Flame Award for Industry was presented to Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire, LLC of Aiken, South Carolina for their use of a hydrogen fuel cell powered forklift fleet program.

FuelCellSouth was formed as an outgrowth of the collaborative work between industry and researchers to identify and index the opportunities for collaboration in the delivery of fuel cell-based solutions in the commercial and consumer markets. A key deliverable from this work has been the characterization of key barriers to market adoption and industry growth for fuel cell products and services.
